What does OCR actually do?

A scan is a picture of a page — the computer sees ink, not letters. OCR looks at the shapes and works out the characters, so the text becomes searchable, selectable and copyable.

How good is it with Marathi?

Good on clean, printed Devanagari. Handwriting is unreliable, and a faint or skewed photocopy will produce mistakes. Always read the output before you rely on it.

Why is it slow?

Recognition runs on your own device, roughly ten to thirty seconds a page, and the first run downloads several megabytes of language data. Nothing is uploaded.

The result has errors.

Rescan straight-on with even light and no shadow, at 300 DPI if you can. Skew and shadow cost more accuracy than resolution does.
